Approximation algorithm for minimizing total latency in machine scheduling with deliveries

چکیده
We study the problem of minimizing total latency in machine scheduling with deliveries, which is defined as follows. There is a set of n jobs to be processed by a single machine at a plant, where job Ji is associated with its processing time and a customer i located at location i to which the job is to be delivered. In addition, there is a single uncapacitated delivery vehicle available. All jobs (vehicle) are available for processing (delivery) at time 0. Our aim is to determine the sequence in which the jobs should be processed in the plant, the departure times of the vehicle from the plant, and the routing of the vehicle, so as to minimize the total latency (job delivery time). We present a 6e ∼ 16.309691-approximation algorithm for the problem.

A New ILP Model for Identical Parallel-Machine Scheduling with Family Setup Times Minimizing the Total Weighted Flow Time by a Genetic Algorithm
This paper presents a novel, integer-linear programming (ILP) model for an identical parallel-machine scheduling problem with family setup times that minimizes the total weighted flow time (TWFT). Some researchers have addressed parallel-machine scheduling problems in the literature over the last three decades. However, the existing studies have been limited to the research of independent jobs,...
متن کاملMinimizing the Number of Tardy Jobs in the Single Machine Scheduling Problem under Bimodal Flexible and Periodic Availability Constraints
In single machine scheduling problems with availability constraints, machines are not available for one or more periods of time. In this paper, we consider a single machine scheduling problem with flexible and periodic availability constraints. In this problem, the maximum continuous working time for each machine increases in a stepwise manner with two different values allowed. Also, the durati...
متن کاملA branch and bound algorithm to minimize the total weighted number of tardy jobs and delivery costs with late deliveries for a supply chain scheduling problem
In this paper, we study a supply chain scheduling problem that simultaneously considers production scheduling and product delivery. jobs have to be scheduled on a single machine and delivered to customers for further processing in batches. The objective is to minimize the sum of the total weighted number of tardy jobs and the delivery costs. In this paper, we present a heuristic algorithm (HA...
متن کاملFuzzy Programming for Parallel Machines Scheduling: Minimizing Weighted Tardiness/Earliness and Flow Time through Genetic Algorithm
Appropriate scheduling and sequencing of tasks on machines is one of the basic and significant problems that a shop or a factory manager encounters; this is why in recent decades extensive studies have been done on scheduling issues. One type of scheduling problems is just-in-time (JIT) scheduling and in this area, motivated by JIT manufacturing, this study investigates a mathematical model for...
متن کاملMinimizing the total tardiness and makespan in an open shop scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup times
We consider an open shop scheduling problem with setup and processing times separately such that not only the setup times are dependent on the machines, but also they are dependent on the sequence of jobs that should be processed on a machine. A novel bi-objective mathematical programming is designed in order to minimize the total tardiness and the makespan. Among several mult...
